Is your browser optimized to see clearly?

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 5, 2009, 10:54 AM
The long and short: Mac users with Safari enjoy color management and expanded gamut already enabled. Firefox 3 users must enable it, though the browser is capable of it. IE, Opera, and Chrome lack the ability to show expanded color gamut.

Sometime in January, I was very disappointed that many shots I had posted on dA looked nothing like what I knew I had uploaded; I would view them on my system and they looked vibrant and fine, I would view them on my dA account and they seemed lifeless and dull. After long searching and much reading about colorspace usage, I found this information( I thought it might be helpful to share with other dA members). This is useful to anyone, but especially those viewing or posting images with Adobe RGB colorspace. If you happen to use Firefox 3, you may want to check this out: [link]
The end result, I now see on my dA account exactly the file which I saw on my computer before I posted it. Hopefully this will improve when I replace my monitor later this year with an Adobe RGB capable model. (see below).

I must also mention that while this does allow your browser to actually show the color values from Adobe RGB, it is quite another story as to whether your monitor can show them or not. My Samsung T240 only has a color Gamut of 82%, therefore some color values are going to be approximated and rendered as a value within the sRGB colorspace. What those colors are, will be completely dependent upon our individual monitors, and their technical characteristics (where in the gamut, the display parameters fall).

Feel free to ask any questions, I will help if I can.

Also for those interested, here is a useful link for Color Management in CS, very helpful for newcomers to Photoshop: [link]

Plans wrapped in an enigma..... then Deep-fried

Journal Entry: Wed May 27, 2009, 6:45 PM
Starting to feel creative once again. I have definitely been enjoying some different avenues of expression the last few days.In the next coming month I will have some diverse photographic subjects.

Next Week I am planning to hike part of the 70mi. Laurel Highlands Trail - hopefully I will get some nice PA scenery capture for eveyone from Lynn Run State Park, Ohiopyle State Park, and points in between.Info on the trail is available at: [link]

In a few weeks and there after, I will be focusing on railways and abandoned industry buildings, notably the old Steel Mill buildings still left in SW Pennsylvania. Of particular interest will be the Allegheny Portage Railroad, which included the first railroad tunnel in the United States, and Horseshoe Curve on the old PRR Line. [link] and [link])

July 13-19, I will be focusing on the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix - the nation's largest vintage sports car race and the only one run on city streets! This year's feature marque is my favorite, BMW. So be prepared for some vintage auto love ...... now that doesn't sound right at all. You can visit the PVGP site here: [link] Also expect some interesting shots of Pittsburgh's architecture, skyline, and Street Life.

Life outside Washington DC is anything but boring......

I decided to look through my favorites for unique works which intrigued me , and in in the interest of making it more interesting, I tried my best to also find intriguing work which I feel isn't as popular or viewed as much as it should be. If you like it, please stop by and let these worthy deviants hear your thoughts. Also, sorry for the very large feature, but I am still digging my way out from 8 months of dA absence ;)

10,000 Pageviews & Recent Inspiration

Mon May 11, 2009, 9:19 AM
I would first like to thank all of my dA friends and visitors to my page for helping me hit 10,000 pageviews! Miraculous since I have been absent the better part of 8 months. As such I felt the need to dedicate the next photo I posted to everyone here.

I would also like to showcase some truly amazing photos I have seen lately, which I find to be very inspiring.
If you also like them, please stop by and show your support for these talented artists.

Relocation......

Fri May 8, 2009, 5:12 AM
I have been so upset with not having time for photography and dA that I decided to finally do something about it. :mwahaha:

Well after enjoying the rat race of Washington DC, and my inability to spend time on photography...... I decided to move back to Pennsylvania last week. Now I can enjoy a greater amount of time and freedom to pursue my photographic interests, and I am surrounded by all my trusted, life-long friends. Shortly after returning, I was also approached by a former boss who asked me to come back to UPS (which I had left long ago). So I can only affirm that life is much more interesting now, and I am hoping to spend a lot more time here on dA, as my friends here are always helping to push the development of my skills.

Now tha national monuments and imposing facades are hundreds of miles away, expect to see a far greater variety of photography.... at least that what I am hoping... ;)
